FISHING TEXAS – An Angler’s Guide, by Russell Tinsley

Fishing Texas, An Angler's Guide, is a very complete book for both fresh and saltwater Texas fishing.

Russell Tinsley was perhaps my favorite Texas outdoor writer when I was a “kid”. He wrote mostly about freshwater fishing, but when he went to the coast he surf fished for bull reds and jack crevalle. Not many Texas writers discussed fish like that in those days, except maybe in local papers.I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Tinsley, but in my time with the Texas Outdoor Writers Association I have become friends with many who DID know him, and I have never heard a bad word said (although Marty Malin likes to joke about him on occasion). This book covers fishing for both fresh and saltwater species, but is also very valuable for the species identification section, with color plates and descriptions that are both interesting and valuable to Texas coastal fishermen. The book was printed in 1988, by Shearer Publishing in Fredericksburg,Texas, so some of the records listed are out of date, but it is still the most complete volume of its kind I have ever seen.
