Florida Black bears like this one are on the increase.

This shot of a Florida black bear that just tore down a hanging corn feeder was sent by my friend Frank, in the Florida panhandle area. My buddy, Paul Davidson, of the Black Bear Recovery Project in Louisiana, advises me to tell Frank there might soon be a season there for hunting bears, as the population seems to warrant it.

Paul has also been telling me for years that his group tracks a bear wearing a radio collar in the Orange, Texas, area that crossed the Sabine River from Louisiana, and Texas sightings are on the rise. I half expect to see one under one of my feeders one day!

Got another feeder this past week, funny the hogs do run the bears off when they come in together.

My buddy who heads the black bear restoration project in Louisiana told me when I asked him if bears would be effective predators of hogs that he would put his money on a hog in such a tussle!
